expressions of life

Here's a poem I wrote after my depression improved.  I shared this at our Assembly on 2/8/2004.

The Journey

A horse of black

A proud animal

A "humble" rider.

I was that equestrian,

And we journeyed through

The dark veil of depression.

My companion limped

Barely able to continue

On the steep, uphill climb.

I was too tired to notice

Too weary to care

Too determined to give up.

In the valley of the darkest shadows

He lifted my face

And opened my eyes.

God revealed himself to me

In a rainbow of light and tears!

The horse was gone.

The dark veil was lifted.

My heart became so unburdened

That it traveled up and past the rainbow

To heights where only angels tread.

All praise to God whose mercies and lovingkindness know no end
