Training leaders to train others.  2 Timothy 2:2

Comments

This is our last SALT Newsletter.

In January 2003 we sent out our first monthly SALT Newsletter.  In 2004 the newsletter was sent out as a quarterly mailing.  The purpose of the Newsletter has been to present many of the concepts that have been foundational to the SALT training approach, as well as to share comments from different trainers around the globe who are implementing these concepts in their ministries.

During these four years our address list has grown considerably.  Though we do not hear personally from most of you, we hope that these letters have had a ministry in encouraging you in your obedience-based equipping of leaders, using the laws of the seed, the soil, the sower and the harvest as a tool for more effective communication of truth.  As holistic trainers our aim is not merely to transplant biblical information, but to implant biblical truth, seeking to impact culture by modifying beliefs, values and behavior patterns.

The main reason we are discontinuing the Newsletter is because of the huge volume of material you are getting on through your email address, which means that anything bigger than a few paragraphs probably does not get read.  Of course, if you want to access any of the past Newsletters, they are available at www.gbim.org.

But even though we are no longer sending out the Newsletter, we still want to keep in contact.  SALT is an alliance, and communication is basic to any kind of alliance.  For those who wish, we will continue to send out emails with the heading Tips for Trainers to those of you who wish to receive them.  Many of these will be no more than a sentence or two.  You may get a couple of emails during a particular month, and nothing during the month or two following.  We are counting on you to send us some of the Tips that have been useful in your ministry.  This will be a ministry to everyone on the mailing list.  Be assured that we will not bother you with anything that we do not consider to be significant.

If you want to receive Tips for Trainers, send an email to Tom Julien (address below) and we will keep you on the address list.

And for the rest of you, “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”  (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17)

Here is our first Tip for Trainers, to give you an idea of what you can expect:

Equipping means empowering for ministry, through intercession, involvement, discipleship and encouragement.

Steps toward empowerment for ministry:

Intercession.   Paul’s prayers are our model in praying for our disciples.

Involvement.  Effective equipping trains in ministry, not for ministry.

Discipleship.  Discipleship equips in knowledge, character and skill.

Encouragement.  Effective evaluation is by positive affirmation.
