thequest family,

Shocking news this week in our humble family as a couple of folks connected to thequest family have been upgraded to seeing Jesus face-to-face.  I sadly report our loss and Christ's gain of both Larry Brown and David Wachtel.  See the news section below about information for memorial services and obituaries.

I wanted to post below lyrics to a song that David wrote just months ago that speaks to his faith and to God's truths that he embraces even more so now...

In Tune With the Trinity

Heavenly Father I thank You
For allowing me to live
Your generosity awes me
There is no one You can’t out-give

I thank You for Your mercy
Lord Jesus Christ through Your blood
Without You I’d fall forever
With no relief of landing with a thud

I thank You Holy Spirit
For Your Guidance in my life
And making me aware I’m
A part of Lord Jesus’ wife

I praise You all three of You
For taking an interest in me
My heart can’t help but love You
And it will eternally

Memorial Service Information:

Larry Brown:

It is with a heavy heart I share with you about a great friend of our neighborhood. At 12:20pm Friday May 30th at OSU East Hospital, Larry Brown passed away. He finished a long and hard fight with many physical difficulties. I was informed of this news by his partner Michael Koza.

There will be a Celebration of the Life of Larry Brown service on Saturday June 7th at 11am at:

St. Sebastian Reformed Catholic Church
4313 Alkire Rd Columbus, OH 43228
Presiding Bishop: The Most Reverend Phillip Zimmerman, RSJ

A luncheon will follow the service to which all are invited.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Sebastian Reformed Catholic Church. There will be a celebration later in the month in Gallipolis, OH for family and friends where Larry's ashes will be buried next to his Grandmother.

Larry's obituary from the Columbus Dispatch:

Lawrence Glenn Brown was born on July 5, 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio. His family moved to Upper Arlington when he was seven years old. He graduated from UAHS in 1968, and then attended Moorehead State University in Kentucky. He obtained an associate degree in Nutrition and had jobs in three different restaurants in Illinois and Alabama. After a few years, he returned to Columbus and worked for Meals on Wheels. In the last several years he was overwhelmed by illness; however he placed a significant amount of his time into community services.

Larry passed away on May 30, 2008 at OSU Hospital East. His family members who have been with him throughout his life and his ten month hospitalization are: significant other, Michael Koza; parents, Charles and Patsy Brown; daughter, Patricia Collins; Siblings, Patricia and Richard Vesper, Sue and Steve Richards, Rick and Jeannie Brown; nieces and nephews, Kelsey Walker, Kyle Vesper, Dustin Richards, Michael Richards, Katie Richards, Laura Brown, and Ian Brown. Arrangements handled by Pfeifer Funeral Home. The memorial service for Larry is to be held at St. Sebastian Cathedral at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008. St Sebastian Cathedral is located at 4313 Alkire Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43228. Online condolences available www.pfeiferfuneral.com Sign the online guestbook at www.dispatch.com/obituaries

David Wachtel:

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of our friend, David Wachtel. David was an active member of the Third Avenue and later the Tuesday evening house churches. As many of you know, David was struggling with diabetes, sleep apnea, at congestive heart failure. It appears he passed without suffering sometime around Friday, May 28, although his death was not discovered until Monday evening.

There will be a memorial service celebrating David's life on Friday, June 6 at 11:00 AM at the Water of Life Church, 3750 Sullivant Avenue, Columbus, OH 43228. The church can be reached by taking I-70 west from downtown. Take the Wilson Road exit and turn left (south) to Sullivant Avenue. Turn right on Sullivant, and the church is the second building on the right side. There will be a luncheon following the service.

David's obituary from the Columbus Dispatch:

David “Donald” Wachtel

David “Donald” Wachtel, aka Beloved Quail, 57, of Columbus, OH,went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 30, 2008. David was born on January 24, 1951 in Sewickley, PA. He was the son of Joseph and Regina Wachtel, both of Baden, PA. He graduated from Ambridge High School, class of 1969 and attended the main campus of Penn State University. He was a member of thequest a house church network in Columbus and the Water of Life Fellowship also in Columbus.

David was a gifted poet, artist and a professional song writer. He volunteered for the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless; Habitat for Humanity; National Alliance for the Mentally ill (NAMI), and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), where he worked with law enforcement in dealing with the mentally ill. He was involved with Amnesty International, Community Support Network (CSN), and he volunteered at the Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Public Library. David was also a Student at Columbus State University maintaining an A average.

David was running as a write-in candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District. His motto was “SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE - creative ideas for a change! What if... ...and why not? A real choice, not an insult to your intelligence.”

Surviving are his Mother, Regina Wachtel, Baden PA; Father, Joseph Wachtel and wife Sandy, Baden PA; Brother, William, Pittsburgh, PA; Sister, Rose, Ambridge, PA; Brother Brian and wife Chris, Baden, PA; Brother Eric and wife Amy, Akron, OH; and 4 nieces - Jocelyn, Nicole, Erica, Olivia and 5 nephews - Dylan, Jarod, Joshua, Michael, Benjamin.

David had a strong love for his Lord and Savior and expressed this through his writings, songs, and his compassion towards others, especially the homeless and those in the mental health system. He is now at peace in the presence of his Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Water of Life Church, 3750 Sullivant Ave., Columbus, OH. 43228. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Columbus Coalition for the Homeless, 132 South 3rd Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
